  • Why should I choose DiscoverAbility as a vendor?

    Under the leadership of Executive Director, Patrick Scott, MS, CRC, CVE our agency has 15 years’ experience and a diverse staff ready to assist you. We have 7 offices across the Central Florida area and are willing to travel to you. We have staff members that are fluent in Spanish and American Sign Language (ASL).

  • Does your agency have experience working with specific disabilities?

    Yes, our staff is trained and highly qualified to provide services for individuals with a wide variety of disabilities, including physical, cognitive, and mental health.

  • Does your agency have contacts with businesses in the local community?

    Yes, we continuously work hard to build connections and relationships with local businesses and employers. We have successfully placed over 4,000 individuals in 7 counties across Central Florida.

  • What is the cost of participating in services?

    Our services are of no cost to the customers that we serve and the employers we partner with.

  • How do I become a customer of DiscoverAbility?

    DiscoverAbility is contracted by Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), a federal-state program that helps people who have physical or mental disabilities get or keep a job. VR is committed to helping people with disabilities find meaningful careers.

    Step 1: Apply for VR services with your local VR office. Attend Orientation.

    Step 2: Request to be referred to DiscoverAbility for Employment Services.

  • Are you a staffing agency?

    No. This is an individualized service based on customers’ specific abilities, interests and employment goals. We strive to make a good connection between customers and local employers.


FAQ – Vocational Evaluations and Psychological Evaluations

  • What should I do prior to my evaluation?

    You will receive a call or text message to schedule your vocational evaluation. Once the date is set, you will receive another call or text message the day before your appointment to confirm your attendance. Please ensure you return any calls or text messages to confirm your appointment.

  • I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment. What should I do?

    If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please contact your Vocational Evaluator with whom you made the appointment with OR contact our office at 407-894-5051 and leave a message regarding your request. Please submit cancellation or rescheduling requests 24-hours in advance.

  • How do I prepare for my evaluation?

    Get a good night’s rest and eat before your scheduled appointment. Ensure you take any prescribed medications as necessary. Arrive at least 10-minutes before your scheduled appointment.

  • What should I bring with me to the evaluation?

    Bring a photo identification, a resume (if you have one), medication list, and any relevant documentation (IEP, recent medical documents, and/or psychological evaluation). If you are a student, please bring a copy of your most recent grades or unofficial transcript. You may bring a small snack and something to drink. You may also want to bring a light jacket or sweater. If you wear glasses or hearing aids, please bring them. If you require specific accommodations, please contact our office at 407-894-5051 prior to your appointment to discuss.

  • What happens on the day of the evaluation?

    On the day of your evaluation, please arrive at least 10 minutes early. Upon arrival, provide the front desk with your name. Your Vocational Evaluator will be notified of your arrival and they will greet you in the front office. The Vocational Evaluator will provide an overview of the days agenda and answer any questions you may have. They will collect background information and administer assessments as requested by your Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor.

  • How long is the evaluation?

    Evaluations may take up to 4-hours to complete, depending on the assessments requested by Vocational Rehabilitation. Breaks are provided. In certain cases, the evaluation may be separated into two separate days if deemed necessary.

  • Do I get a copy of my assessment results?

    After your evaluation is complete, all assessments are scored and a report is submitted to the office of Vocational Rehabilitation. Your Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor will contact you to go over the assessment results and recommendations. If you would like a copy of your report, please contact your Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor.

  • What are your obligations for confidentiality?

    Consultation, psychological evaluations, and diagnostic impressions are confidential and you must give your consent in order to release information to a third party. Exceptions to confidentiality include the following:

    · There is reason to believe a child under 18 has been the victim of abuse or neglect.
    · The client expresses the intent to harm themselves or is gravely disabled.
    · The client communicates a serious threat of imminent harm to a clearly identified victim(s).
    · There is a court order for records signed by a judge.
    · The evaluation is an independent educational evaluation requested by and paid for by the school and consented to by the parent.
    · For the purposes of professional consultation.

  • Can I have my spouse, family member, or friend attend the evaluation with me?

    If you are unable to provide your Vocational Evaluator with your background information, a spouse, parent/guardian, or friend may assist in providing this information. However, once all information is collected, they will be asked to wait in the lobby. A spouse, parent/guardian, or friend will not be permitted to remain in the room during administration of assessments.


FAQ – Mental Health Counseling

  • What kind of counseling is offered at DiscoverAbility?

    Counseling at DiscoverAbility would involve any mental health-related topics/issues. Our level of mental wellness can affect our ability to function in the world. One of the areas of our lives that may be affected is the ability to maintain employment. This is why we see the importance of mental wellness when transitioning to employment.

  • What can I expect during my counseling sessions?

    The first session is the intake where the counselor gathers information on why counseling is being sought. The second and third sessions are centered around continuous information gathering, while beginning to create the treatment plan. The treatment plan includes the goals of counseling and what you would like to accomplish during and between counseling sessions. All future sessions are focused on working on and following up on goal progress.

  • Is counseling at DiscoverAbility confidential?

    Yes, confidentiality is taken very seriously at DiscoverAbility. Your privacy is a significant focus, which involves several steps to keep your records and information safe. As always, if you mention a desire or intent to harm yourself or someone else, if a minor or elderly individual is endangered, or if courts subpoena records release, confidentiality may need to be broken.

  • What can I gain from counseling at DiscoverAbility?

    You can learn tips on how to stay emotionally healthy, coping skills for anxiety and/or depression, and other ways to care for your mental wellness to ensure stability before and during employment.


FAQ – On-the-Job Training

      OJTs provide participants with real-world work experience to help build transferable skills to aid in future career development. OJTs allow you to experience various workplace settings while gaining practical knowledge, such as adhering to a work schedule, interacting with coworkers, taking direction from management, completing new-hire paperwork, and general workplace etiquette.

    • Will I be paid for my training experience and time during the OJT?

      OJTs can be both paid and unpaid. If paid, you will become a temporary employee of DiscoverAbility and will be compensated for all time worked at a competitive wage.

    • What will I need to have to participate in an OJT experience?

      In order to participate, you will need to have the following:

      • Valid documentation proving your employment eligibility (Identification, Social Security Card, Passport, Birth Certificate, or other government issued documentation)
      • You must have a valid, unique email address

      ** Uniform or other requirements are based on OJT employer protocol.

    • How long does an OJT experience last?

      OJTs can run anywhere from 4-12 weeks. Length is agreed upon by worksite representative, customer, employment specialist, and VRC.

    • What are some industries that you have OJTs in?

      We work closely with local businesses in numerous industries, including retail, hospitality, food service, IT, attractions, etc.
